Sausage gravy is not something I have often which is why I never realized how easy it is to make! I mostly nibble off of my husband’s plate when we go out to breakfast since this is his go-to. There are so few ingredients and it truly is a very easy recipe to make. Just a side note, traditionally sausage gravy is a little lighter in color but mine came our looking more like thanksgiving gravy LOL. I got lazy and didn’t fully degrease my cast iron skillet which made my gravy a darker brown color. STILL YUMMY!
Obviously there are no actual biscuits under the gravy BUT it tastes amazing with a warm sweet potato! I love white skin sweet potatoes best but any potato works! For traditional sausage gravy, the main ingredients are pork sausage, butter, flour and milk. In order to make this recipe gluten and dairy free I used Bob’s Red Mill 1 to 1 gluten-free all-purpose flour, ghee and lite coconut milk (did not taste coconut-y). Gluten Free Sausage GravyPrint Recipe
- 1lb. Pork Sausage
- 1 TBSP Ghee or Grass-fed Butter (dairy)
- 1 tsp Poultry Seasoning
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/4 Cup Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour (I used Bob's Red Mill 1 to 1)
- 3 Cups Coconut Milk (It will not taste coconut-y)
- 1 tsp Sea Salt (more if needed)
- Chives for garnish
Heat a cast iron skillet or saucepan on medium-high.
Add the pork sausage and cook until brown.
Mix in all of the spices.
Through in the ghee or butter.
Add the flour and mix well.
Once the flour has dissolved, add the coconut milk.
Let it simmer on medium low until the gravy becomes thick, about 4 minutes.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Pour gravy over pre-cooked sweet potato and garnish with chives.
I used plain pork sausage and added my own spices but feel free to use already seasoned sausage or even a different ground meat. I cooked my sweet potatoes for 20 minutes in my instant pot or you can bake them at 400 degrees for 45 minutes depending on the size.
